Proposed Residential Development on Leahurst Road, Lewisham

Claridge Architects has submitted a detailed planning application for a residential development of eight bespoke homes on land to the rear of 195-219 Leahurst Road, Lewisham, London. Situated within the Lewisham Small Sites Housing Opportunity Area, the car-free scheme replaces derelict garages with high-quality dwellings, designed to enhance the site’s potential while addressing local privacy, sustainability, and biodiversity.

The design draws inspiration from the architectural character of neighbouring buildings, which are predominantly brick with features like large lintels, sills, and window surrounds. Subtly reinterpreting these elements, the proposal introduces a muted red brick façade that creates a distinctive, contemporary look while harmonising with its surroundings.

Following extensive design reviews, the proposal includes three distinct house typologies, all set outside Flood Zone 3B and arranged to minimise impact on neighbours. A central landscaped space enhances biodiversity, complemented by tree planting, green roofs, and permeable paving for sustainable drainage. Improved boundaries, secure cycle storage, and refuse facilities complete this eco-conscious transformation into a vibrant residential community.
