Large Residential-led Mixed Use scheme providing over 700 homes in Birmingham.

Claridge architects have designed a scheme of over 700 new homes of a variety of scales nestled between the road, railway and canal with generous public landscaping and high quality architecture, creating a new neighbourhood in Birmingham. Soho Wharf sits 20 minutes walk to the north west of Birmingham city centre. Located centrally among a number of proposed development sites, the proposals not only create a new place to live but strive to help reinvigorate the area and the wider community.

To successfully link the site both physically and socially, landscaped pedestrian routes and green spaces weave between urban blocks and connect with the existing network of established tow-path routes linking to the city centre. Communal spaces range from intimate green pockets and shared gardens to a large waterfront space with a new bridge crossing the canal. The 106 carefully crafted houses break free from the typical terrace street arrangement. A rotated grid encourages permeability and allows for variety. A variety of housing types with future adaptability provide for a range of age groups to achieve balanced communities and accommodate changing needs across the life course.
