Seagate, Hunstanton
June 2009, North Norfolk
Working within the BDP Masterplan regeneration zone CAL has
worked up a scheme for a key town / coastal site (formerly the
Kit Kat Klub) with the design focus being on the sea frontage.
The residential building with commercial space to the ground
floor is designed to work with several site parameters.
Firstly the building is designed to rise to the west corner of the
site, the reasoning behind this is we wanted to create a new
nodal point along the Hunstanton sea front due to the nature
of the view and secondly the setting sun dropping over the wash.
The other main site issue was the lower residential dwellings to
the south of the site being only ground and first floor, the form
of our building then lead us to step the building rising from 2
floors to the south side to 6 with viewing platforms to the west
side.
The material of the building is that of simply sharp white render
with timber slots to encompass the balconies and communal
spaces throughout the building.
