Chevening Road
October 2008, London
This large Victorian house needed some serious modernisation to make it work as a contemporary family home. Only the external walls were left intact as the whole property was gutted to make room for the new generous open plan living/kitchen area with large sliding glazed doors that lead out onto the garden. The new loft floor provided 2 extra bedrooms and an additional bathroom.
The reconfiguration allowed a generous master suite, which occupied the entire rear of the first floor, with the master bathroom making use of a pitched roof to create an architectural focal point. The several strategically placed skylights were designed so that the house would be bathed in light for most of the day.
