Brooklands

June 2009, London Private Residential

Our key aim on this development was to combine a building of the highest contemporary architectural quality with the highest environmental sustainability standards for this sensitive site, within a conservation area. The new dwelling covers 190M2 with three bedrooms, one en-suite, living/dining area, study,  games room, 2 bath/shower rooms and garage.

The concept of the design has been defined by a number of factors that include not only the desires and wishes of the client, but moreover the brief as defined by the site itself. The orientation of the site dictates that the active front of the house would naturally look out onto the river and the vista beyond. Thus facing all main rooms to the rear of the site.

The ground floor contains the family bedrooms, with the master suite comprising all of the first floor taking full advantage of the views on offer. The majority of the family living space is to the lower ground floor with an open viewing terrace which looks out onto the river. This allows for the surrounding landscape to enter into the house as it sits seamlessly within the topography. The use of large plate glass windows allows for unobstructed views out of the house, and a sense of transparency to become infused within the design.

A carefully selected palette of materials were employed to ensure that they were locally sourced and sustainable material choices were made. The scheme employed a number of sustainable strategies to ensure that the building would respond appropriately to its environment, could be constructed in a conscientious and responsible manner and would ensure that any and all impacts upon the environment were minimized.
